The verdict
BolehJason rates the honey-drizzled fried popiah 7.9 — the smoky-sweet peanut sauce is nailed, but pre-fried kulit kills the crispiness. The fried cempedak scores 5.4 as the bland batter gets in the way of great fruit.
Highlights
- Price: RM8 for 4 popiah pieces, RM10 for 7 cempedak pieces
- Taste: Smoky-sweet peanut sauce generous and savoury; cempedak sweet but batter bland
- Ambiance: Ramadan bazaar at DTDI, less crowded than Wangsa Maju yesterday
- Other: Popiahs are pre-fried, so no fresh crispiness during puasa

Gang, we are here at DTDI. Our quest today is to find the next food. Tempedak para satapan diraja, 10 ringgit for 7 pieces. I have to say it's not as crowded as yesterday's Wangsa Maju. Ayah, popiah power, this is what we're gonna try. 8 ringgit, which means 2 ringgit per piece lah, this is 4 pieces. Uy, drippy. Popiah goreng siram madu. The sauce has really set into the kulit already. It just don't take forever to chew. Butter pong aside, I like their sauce. It's smoky sweet, grinded pinati texture as well. The sauce alone more towards on the sweet profile but with the pinati taste, it adds savouriness. The honey flavour you get here sebiji macam the honeycomb biscuit taste. Macam kunah plastik lah then. I like that they are very generous with the sauce. 360 pun ada kuting kat sini. At least they're inti lah inside the sengkuang and the taugeh. Still is giving you some slight crunchiness and juiciness. I think they have nailed their taste. Even in terms of the size, this is definitely one of the bigger popiahs. The taste here memang power. The big miss is the popiah texture lah. When I was there, I did not see them fry a fresh batch. Macam they pre-fried and brought it to the side. Maybe we could air fry it or microwave it to make it crispy again but I don't think you'll get that same light, airy, fresh crispiness. Since this is sold during puasa and people probably won't get the freshest experience, 7.9. Fried cempedak, 7 pieces for 10 ringgit. Besarna ma'am. Pui! Hey, I like it when the cempedak is sweeter than usual. And this is definitely beyond the threshold of normal sweetness. It's got the stretchy, kunyah-rable texture. Still got it sweet juice when you bite it. But try test the batter. Lemau nak mampul! It's a very, very bland taste. It doesn't have the pastry taste, it doesn't have the batter taste, it doesn't have the deep fried taste. Pretty much all I tasted was the cempedak. I mean the cempedak tastes nice. Obviously it's soggy because it's been here for a long, long time. But macam the complete lack of taste from the batter just gets in the way of the cempedak. And it seems like it's better for me to just eat the cempedak by itself. No doubt this cempedak is fresh but the batter can do much better. The batter can do much better. 5.4.
