Jason finds KLCG's newest pastries beautiful but pricey, with the cherry blossom tart the standout at 7.5. Flavours are experimental and portions small, so value is questionable. He also interviews Herman about queue fixes and the beloved Ramadan beef stew possibly returning.

Highlights

  • Price: Most pastries cost above RM10, tarts RM15-22
  • Taste: Layered, experimental flavours; cherry blossom tart best, cinnamon roll too strong
  • Ambiance: Modern edible-art gallery vibe, always crowded with buyers
  • Other: New two-queue system prioritises dine-in customers; TV informs waiting customers

I went back to KLCG to try 4 of their newest pastries and interview Herman on their lowest Google reviews and whether they will bring back my all-time favourite dish here. Chances are this place is crowded, there's always someone wanting to buy something here. Most pastries will cost you above 10 ringgit. I'm here to try their newest pastries with the Gale Fan, first in that menu cherry blossom tart for 19 ringgit. It has almond fragepe which is almond in cream form. There's other ingredients here but I'm guessing that's where most of your money goes. It really have layers of different taste for you and you get the light creaminess of the whipped cream, then a slightly thicker smoother cheese cream. Then you can taste the pitted berries. Two things I don't like about this, very expensive because I think the ingredients they use is quality but also the portion, very small. 3, 2, 1, 7.5. But this pretty piece of owl cinnamon roll will set you back 15 ringgit. In exchange you get cinnamon, cinnamon cheese spread on top and vanilla cream cheese. Also I think it's inspired by Cinnabon. I think you'll like it, you'll like cinnamon. For me, a bit too strong on the cinnamon. Outside has a nice sugar honey glaze kind of thing but the rest of the ingredients, the cinnamon, the praline cream, they don't work well together for me. It's an experimental taste, you might like it but me, no. 5.8. This is the Honey Flakes Cozzone for 19 ringgit. Yes, the top deck is honeycomb mixed with cornflakes and a yuzu cake in the middle. First thing very cold, you will get the feeling that it's very hard to distinguish the flavours. Then after that it slowly comes to you. It's very prominent on the yuzu. The honey you can taste a bit and the cornflakes. Other than that, the fraggy pain have an extremely subtle flavour. The cozzone is good with flaky, crispy. The problem here is the flavours. My taste bud is trying to translate the flavour but all it's giving me is one big blur. 6.6. And the last one Hazelnut Praline Tarte, 22 ringgit. Wrapped in rose-like petals is the hazelnut cream and inside In-house blended hazelnut premium. And the base is chocolate tart. If you love Ferrero, you'll love this. Of course I love Ferrero Rocher. But then why don't I just buy a Ferrero Rocher? Ferrero Rocher is not as creamy. Do you get what I mean? Trust me, when you taste this, Ferrero Rocher cream for $21.90. That is mahal and ampuih! 7.1. Do you know about that comment? I read through Google reviews in the morning, in the bathroom, everywhere. It shouldn't be that long to buy a pastry, right? So we decided to split into 2Q system, prioritise our dining customers first, only our take-away customers. Second update is where we install a TV in front. The TV and receptionist will be in charge of informing the customers in the front. Hainan coffee is horrible. So right now we have an SOP where each of it is measured, where everything should be done accordingly to the grams, sugar level, milk level. Last time was done traditionally where someone would just pull where you get the coffee tiam style. I've tried the beef stew in your Ramadan menu. That was my favourite of the year. Are you bringing it back? We hope to but it's a very delicate dish. We want to prioritise on quality. We can release it but each stew might be different because of the number of times we have to do it in a day. Conclusion, you're bringing it back next year Ramadan. Hopefully! We'll see! Maybe something new.
