The verdict
BolehJason rates this halal char kway teow 7.3 — the foundation and wok hei leave you wanting more, but the wait exceeded an hour and the kering was still too basah. The special with added egg really lifts the flavour, though the prawns were mushy frozen ones and the kerang were micro-sized.
Highlights
- Price: Kering special at RM9.50
- Taste: Good wok hei and soft kway teow, but dry-ish sauce and tiny kerang
- Ambiance: Busy stall with one person cooking, long queues
- Other: One-hour-plus wait from queue to food; service is the weak point

Kids Yezu asked us to try this char kway teow in Cha Alam. It's called Kueh and they sell halal CKTs. What do you think of the char kway teow? At the chill now, it smells nice. It might not always be the case for char kway teow but a good smell usually means a good taste. We have waited 20 minutes, now it's 9.30pm. We realise it's going to take a while so we asked a few people what they thought of the food here. Your first time here? Our third time here! More than 10 times already. My family loves it. We've been coming back because I feel like it's our favourite. What do you like about it? There's like the char when you flavour it. It has the wok hay and rice. Oh, wok hay. Okay. The jeruk is very good. Kering or basah? Kering, no basah for them. Rating? 7.6 9? I don't know 9. I hope it's a 9 for you guys too. Farah DM me and changed her rating for the meal that day. Thanks Farah, appreciate that effort. What is the one thing you think can improve? I think it's the service. Seorang je bekerja so... It's going to take a while for you to wait. Thank you. Thank you so much. 20 minutes later we placed our order. Apa beza biasa dengan special? Special kita tambah telur mata. Okay. Kering dual special. Okay, our food just arrived. 10.10. We've got the kering special, 9 ringgit 50 cents. So we've tried Kek Tiao, Toko Maharaja. Third one. The prawn is super mushy. The juiciness level is almost zero. The prawn is that it's frozen prawn then. The sauce overall is okay but I feel they are dry. It's still on the watter side. So I cannot imagine if the wet one how wet it is. The Kek Tiao texture is very lembut. It easily breaks into your mouth. Mix it with the egg, like an ounce. Yeah, it's better with the egg. I recommend to get a special because they add the egg in. It really makes the flavour pop. Brings it up one or two levels. How would you rate the wok K level? It's good. Oh, I found it. One kerang, this is super tiny man. Might as well don't put the kerang and reduce the price of the Chak Kek Tiao right. And it's not just that one, you know. Every single piece was micro-sized. Where the F is my jeruk? Nah, you take my jeruk. Super spicy right? It adds a burst of sourness and spiciness to your bite. The waiting time is also a factor on top of all that. From queuing to receiving our food, it's one hour plus. Of course not every day is going to be the same. Just assume this is their average shot. 3, 2, 1, 7.3. Their lau at waiting time was a big miss. But their foundation of what a Chak Kek Tiao is leaves you wanting more. Even if their kering is still a bit too basah. You should try the Chak Kek Tiao in Bukit Bandar Raya, Soro. It's in Sha'alam Bukit Bandar Raya. This one is better or the Soro is better? For me, I think the bad one is better.
