Jason finds the food doesn't live up to the gorgeous sunset lake view, scoring the visit in the mid range. The pesto salmon is the only solid dish, while the wagyu pizza and burnt cheesecake both disappoint for their price.

Highlights

  • Price: Pesto salmon RM48 and small burnt cheesecake RM24, with much of the cost going to the view
  • Taste: Wagyu pizza lacks wagyu flavour, pesto salmon fresh and well cooked, cheesecake too sweet
  • Ambiance: Polynesian tiki interior inside, glasshouse exterior by the lake feels like a Balinese getaway
  • Other: Best timed for sunset on a date night, but food quality trails the setting

no wagyu taste, cheese and tomato base only, doesn't melt in mouth

    Score 5.2 out of 10
  • Pesto salmon pasta

leans aglio olio, saltier and fresh, salmon cooked well done

    Score 7.0 out of 10
  • Burnt cheesecake

too sweet, candy toffee taste, RM24 for small size

    Score 5.6 out of 10

I found this gorgeous sunset by the lake restaurant in TJ. But how good is the food? It's called Lago by the Lake and if you choose to dine inside, it will give you this Polynesian, tribal, tiki aesthetic. Inside feels like a wild adventure but outside, the exterior glass house whisks you away to a Balinese island getaway for two. She thinks I'm taking photos. We ordered things that we normally like. For example, this Wagyu pizza. Surely Wagyu and pizza cannot go wrong. If you don't taste the cheese, you taste the tomato base. What's special about Wagyu? I don't taste that. And it doesn't melt in your mouth like usually a Wagyu does. 5.2. Pesto Salmon, RM48. My hand, I'm beginning to think a lot of the money goes to the sunset view. Our dentists, this is preference. Their pesto pasta leans more on the alio olio sauce. For pesto pasta, I always like it creamier. I like that it's a tiny bit more saltier, fresh. Salmon is cooked well done, so don't expect a slight pinkish centre. But for the price, I'm giving this a 7. Ended our dinner date with a slice of burnt cheesecake. Please don't be too sweet, please don't be too sweet. It's a bit too sweet. Candy toffee taste, it doesn't feel like burnt cheesecake. Just like cheese, cream cheese. For RM24 for a small size like this, better options out there. 5.6.
