The verdict

Great

Jason rates Maruki Ramen highly, with creamy broths and well-handled toppings, but the RM85.60 bill for two bowls stings like a buffet price. The Kuro Deluxe is the winner with its thin beef slices and peppery chicken roll, while the sesame-based Kara Ajitama is good though its soup falls slightly short.

Highlights

  • Price: RM85.60 for two ramen bowls, which he compares to buffet pricing
  • Taste: Creamy broth similar to Kagura, thinly sliced beef soaks up flavour, tender black-peppery chicken roll
  • Other: Wishes for a whole egg, black fungus in the ramen and chili flakes on the table

Masa nasi, makan nasi, you asked me to come here. Some of you say jelak muat, some of you say besher, others say this is the best ramen they've ever tasted. It goes by Maruki Ramen at The Link KL. I'm going back with a deep hole in my wallet or a deep hole in my wallet and a happy belly. Classic Kuro Deluxe, it comes with chicken rolls, beef slices. Al dente. Similar creaminess to Kagura. Beef slice. Mmm, I'm glad they use this kind of thinly sliced beef. Easy to soak in flavours of the broth, the chicken roll. Oh, tender. It has a slight black peppery flavour to it. Yeah, at least it's not a masuk angin seaweed. I wish the egg was bigger, not full you know. The yolk looks sunken and for the price come on Maruki, just give us a whole egg. The noodle portion is plenty. I'm giving this 8.7. The classic Kara Ajitama comes with the egg It has a burnt flavour. Correct, I'm not good friend. The chicken roll just as good. I prefer the soup on the other one but this one also not bad. Thick and creamy. They use roasted sesame paste to substitute for miso. In this case it works here. You get a creamy peanutty roasted spice with a kick soup flavour. This is an egg. My two wish list, I hope they included black fungus inside the ramen already and the second one is where are the chili flakes? Give us some chili flakes. Eighty-five ringgit sixty cent. Mahan naman, poing!
