Overpriced and overrated: the presentation looks great but the steamed buns taste like a RM2 childhood baked bun. The sweet potato scores 6.1 and pandan 6.3, with a full set running close to RM30.

Highlights

  • Price: Paid RM23; two pieces RM11.50, chocolate RM13, full set near RM30
  • Taste: Pandan cream light and not cloyingly sweet; sweet potato chunky, like a RM2 baked bun
  • Ambiance: Trendy TRX cafe where the steam makes the presentation look better than it tastes
  • Other: Comes with a light cream cheese spread with a thaya butter flavour

We paid RM23 for this in a place called Meal Toast House in TRX. I'll give it to them, presentation alone made me hungry but it's all that steam just smoke and mirrors. Is this price more than just your entry fee for your next feed post? What did you expect when you order sweet potato toast? Mashy. No, it's chunks. I don't know why they put the sweet potato chunks inside, I was expecting it to be mashy, but let's try. You know what girlfriend? You are laughing behind the camera but it is quite mashy. However, overrated. It really tastes like my childhood baked bun that I bought for RM2. They also give you a spread to add to your steamed bun. It looks like cream cheese, ah. I kinda like it, very light. Has a thaya butter sort of flavour. So far I think the sweet potato is quite math 6.1. We've also got the pandan flavour. In each bun there's a pandan cream. This pandan cream, ah, macam you don't have that sweet aftertaple. It doesn't leave your mouth sourish when it's too sweet, you know what I'm saying? But other than that, pandan, very overpriced. For perspective, this two piece is RM11.50. Depending on the flavour you take. I saw chocolate is one of the more expensive ones, RM13. You will order one steamed bun bowl which will cost you close to RM30. But my hand up mum, weee! 6.3. Now they never see me she's red nut today.
