Jason finds the new Haimol Guksu surprisingly homey and Malaysian-tasting at 7.1, but the jampong disappoints with bland ginger-heavy broth at 6. Fresh ingredients overall, though portions and seafood feel lacking for the price.

Highlights

  • Price: Squid twigim at RM11.90 feels questionable for the portion
  • Taste: Haimol Guksu is brothy with seaweed flavour; jampong soup is bland and ginger-heavy
  • Other: Ingredients are fresh but portions could be more generous

It's my first time in Myeongdong Topoki and I'm trying out their new dish. This is their new menu, Haimol Guksu, it looks like Maggi Chicken but does it taste like Maggi Chicken? Very homey, very brothy, it's got a distinctive seaweed flavour, you can't believe it's with sesame seed. Right, tastes very Malaysian. I just tempeh kind of style. Salty, sweet and munchy, all the sides are quite good. Maybe with this ah, shock though. Cepron. Masa pun ada, bland but fresh. La, it looks very small. Meh, the taste overall is very nice, ingredients are fresh but the portion could be more. Yeah, the seafood was lacking portion and taste. 7.1 Jampong with the double j, whenever a food is orange already, it's appetising for us. The guksu noodle, more toin-toin, straight up when you eat it, crumble. The soup bland eh, it's so funny because this one looks like it's going to be bland. Clear soup, you can see through everything then this one it looks very thick but it turns out this one is the bland one. Mixing it's a more help but not by much. Tastes like chicken broth overpowered by ginger. 6. For snacks, squid twigim 11.90. Fried squid. The tepong kan is salty, strong on the eggy flavour. If you don't like too salty, you might not like this but I like salty. I can see this being a very good savoury snack. For the price it's questionable. If on that day I feel like I just got my salary, I would order this at 6.8.
