The verdict

Great

Jason rates this 65-year-old nasi kandar a solid 8, driven by deeply marinated fried chicken that's flavourful beyond the skin. The curries and ladies finger are good, but the salted egg underwhelmed and kopi ice was only average. At RM26 total, it's great value coming from KL.

Highlights

  • Price: RM26 for two drumsticks, ladies finger, salted egg and mixed kuah
  • Taste: Fried chicken marination goes more than skin deep; spicy-sour red sauce with mixed curries
  • Ambiance: Hometown spot his girlfriend frequented during her school days
  • Other: Kopi ice just average, salted egg lost its flavour

This is my girlfriend's hometown fried chicken. It's called nasi kanda padang speedy in Teluk Intan. My girlfriend used to come here a lot during her school day so I wanna see if it's really that delicious. So school! It has the usual nasi kanda dishes but, this is their famous one, the chicken. The smell of that chicken makes me feel like I haven't eaten for days! This is my nasi kanda, two chicken drumsticks, ladies finger, salted egg and their mixed kua. Keo ice was just average but for the price, it's a 5 for me. That red sauce was spicy and sour, mixed with the kua which are different types of curry and with the rice or just cucumber, it's already delicious. Salted egg wasn't salty enough and it tasted like it lost a lot of its flavour. Ladies finger is good but I can get it in a lot of other nasi kanda spots, not as cheap though. Oh their fried chicken is really flavourful, delicious! I mean look at the marination, it's more than skin deep. I would order the chicken alone as a snack but part of this nasi kanda, it's a solid egg. Total damage is RM26 and if you're coming from KL you know this is a good price.
