Jason finds the Nihon Matsuri festival very meh and not worth the RM20 entry plus pricey food. The best parts were the cosplayers and the Dodongki mascot, while the local-cooked Japanese food disappointed.

Highlights

  • Price: RM20 entry, RM3.50 yakitori, RM18 for dango and takoyaki
  • Taste: Yakitori and dango lacked marination and kick; takoyaki untested on camera
  • Ambiance: Shibuya Crossing screen had no vibes; seating area full but chill
  • Other: RM10 parking, gachapon pricey, cosplay competition empty when visited

I went to this Japanese festival called Nihon Matsuri. Parking is 10 ringgit, we parked way too far away but realise you can park closer and there's a lot of spots there at the time. Go to the yellowish building, that's where you get your registration. It's 20 ringgit per doubt, you get some staff with the ticket which will probably throw away after the event. Staff will put the wrist pass on you and voila, you're now in Japan. Hey, let's not kid ourselves but is it really worth the 50 ringgit? Big screen to emulate Shibuya Crossing but I'll get back on that later. This kind bro said food is that way, give him a fist bump. You can put your wish on what I call the wishing wall. Sekarang kita nak cuba makanan Jepun pula tapi dimasak oleh orang local lah. Yaki Tori yang berharga RM3.50. Berbaloi ke, gang? Aku ingat nak beli ni tapi girlfriend tak nak belanja. Tiba je aku yang belanja dia. Aku yaki 5 bola. Kita cuba dulu Yaki Tori ni. Tak sedap, tak ada marination, tak ada rasa, tak ada rasa ketendangan dia. In English kita call it kick. Tak apa, bak kata bila satu pintu tutup, satu lagi buka. Tapi serius, dango ni pun tak sedap lah, gang. Texture okay tapi rasa dia masih je. Cuba tengok ekspresi girlfriend, ekspresi saya semua. Macam tak sukalah. Dahlah RM11. RM18. Tapi rasa macam RM80. Ramai orang kat sini sebab big screen buat countdown tapi untuk apa? Rupanya giveaway. Okay lah tu. Akhirnya 40 minit dah tunggu, dakoyaki pun dah ready. Tapi kenapa pembahagian seaweed ni tak balance lah. Nanti balik baru saya cuba. FYI Shibuya Crossing ni tak vibes lah. Zebra Crossing besha-besha. Okay tempat ni boleh duduk makan, chill tapi penuh. We went to the hall and there was a long queue for people to take photos. You can find trinkets and jewelry here, kimonos from jalan-jalan Japan. As low as 70 up to 130. You can try your luck at the gachapon machine. But I can tell you it's going to be a pricey spin. Cosplay competition but it was empty when we were there. Okay this is my master layout. You go through the entrance. Oh yeah, you register here first. Take a ride in the hall there. Another ride. Cosplay competition. Big screen will be there. Shibuya Crossing. If you go straight some more then it's all the food loh. That's it. Overall the festival was very meh. Maybe it's just me. But I think the best part is the cosplayers. They were rocking it. And of course the Dodongki mascot. Huge respect for wearing it in this way. I think the most Japanese thing about this place is the host. Oh thank you. Girlfriend? Okay great. Thanks. You have to try this with me eh? The final part of the event. Okay lah but I don't think it's worth it lah.
