The verdict

Great

Jason rates Quack Teow's halal char kuey teow an 8.8 — dry, strong wok hei, fresh prawns, and cheaper than Toko Maharaja's version. Only letdown was the dry, rubbery cockles. He'd return since it's closer to home, but says you cannot go wrong with either spot.

Highlights

  • Price: RM13 for the Quack Teow, cheaper than Toko Maharaja's RM20-plus seafood version
  • Taste: Dry, strong wok hei, fresh prawns tasting of the ocean; cockles were rubbery
  • Ambiance: Squeaky duck-themed food truck with a simple three-item menu
  • Other: Compares closely to Toko Maharaja at Hatamas, which he scored 9

Do you think this is the best halal char kuey teow I've ever eaten? I thought I had the best halal char kuey teow, but some of you asked me to try Quack Teow TTDI, a squeaky duck themed food truck. The menu was simple, I like it, only had 3 types of char kuey teow, Quackstar, Quack Teow, Chicks Teow. From my experience if you see them cook the char kuey teow until the heat and the smoke burn your eyes a bit then it's gonna be good. This is the quack teow for 13 ringgit. First important thing for me on char kuey teow is that it's dry, no banjir, no crazy sauce. It was dry, slightly moist. Second most important thing for me, wok hay for quack teow very strong. The prong was fresh because when you eat it you can taste a bit of the ocean. So before I give the rating how does it compare at H at Hatamas from Toko Maharaja? H at Hatamas was a tiny bit drier, slightly saltier but with the chilli that quack teow has that can bring the taste up to something very similar if you like it a bit more salty. And the price quack teow is cheaper than the seafood version I've tried from H at Hatamas which was 20 plus. I gave Toko Maharaja's char kuey teow a 9. Quack Teow's char kuey teow for me is an 8.8. He hit one of my deal breakers, Siham, the kerang, the cockles was very dry, wasn't juicy, it tasted like I was just eating rubber. The kerang for me in the char kuey teow must be a bit raw and has the clammy fishy taste. Personally I would go to Twiti Di more because it's closer to where I live. Conclusion? Cannot go wrong with either. Should I try the lawang kuey teow goreng next?
