The verdict
BolehJason finally gets his hands on the viral Wagyu Fats Fried Rice at Tok Makan Maharaja in Seksyen 13, Shah Alam, after being turned away earlier because it's only available from 5pm. Despite the hype and a 1.5-hour traffic jam, he finds the wagyu fats adds little flavour, tasting close to a good Yang Chow fried rice at nearly RM20 with egg. He scores it a 7.2, noting it would be better value without the premium fats.
Highlights
- Price: Close to RM20 with the RM2 telur mata add-on; he feels it would rate higher if it were under RM10 without the wagyu fats
- Taste: Hardly any difference from non-halal versions; the wagyu fats adds a chewy, almost tendony bite with a bit of lemak flavour but little extra taste, and the fat doesn't drip out
- Ambiance: Full house on a Friday night; the stall only opens at 5pm because the rice is fried fresh and they're short of manpower, with the night crowd being their main business
- Other: He was turned away on a first visit when the wagyu fried rice wasn't ready, and came back 3 weeks later, braving a 1.5-hour jam just for the wagyu fats

I consider this Mahanamampui because it's just the fats. I want to order the Wagyu Fried Rice. Wagyu Fried Rice, it's not ready, it's ready for at 5pm. The non-creator inside of me just wants to get out and not come back here ever again. He'll probably come back 6 hours later. 3 weeks later, we're back again. One and a half hour jam just for Wagyu Fats. Friday and it's a full house. Why is the Wagyu Fats Fried Rice only open at 5pm? Because we need to fry it very freshly. Afternoon cannot fry fresh? We don't have any workers. Boss! Kenapa jual 5pm only? Our crowd is mostly at the night time. Also, short of manpower. Girlfriend ordered her char kway teow so I have to do this quick. This is their Wagyu Fats Fried Rice. Extra RM2 for the tolo mata. Get a nice scoop. It's like you're right there in the kitchen with them when they do the walk here. Taste-wise, there's hardly any difference between this and your non-halal. But, for me, the Wagyu Fats is not adding much flavour to this. Topping the egg, of course I have to add this. Bit of lemak flavour, but in exchange, you get a much chewier, almost tendony chunk of bite. The oil doesn't drip out, which I think that would have been the biggest thing to make this stand out. With the egg, it would be close to RM20 for what tastes like Yang Chow Fried Rice. Which is good. It would have been higher if it was below RM10 without the Wagyu Fats. 7.2
