Jason finds Uncle Roger's fried rice very standard and overpriced, paying brand tax without the wok hei to back it up. The only highlight is the unique mala Sichuan chilli sauce, but at RM118.10 for three fried rice and two drinks, he says consumers should expect far more.

Highlights

  • Price: RM118.10 for three fried rice and two drinks, triple the normal price
  • Taste: Standard fried rice missing wok hei; overcooked prawns; unique mala chilli sauce is the one bright spot
  • Ambiance: Massive queues from 9.50am, 30-35 minute wait just to order
  • Other: Special fly lice egg add-on costs RM6 and glows

Dishes tried

  • Uncle Roger's favourite ice lemon tea

zesty but tastes like bottled Seasons ice lemon tea, half ice

  • Egg fried rice with garlic shrimp

strong taste but no wok hei; prawns mushy, overcooked, zero garlic

    Score 6.1 out of 10
  • Special fly lice

sweet sambal belacan, glowing egg one side overcooked, very normal

    Score 5.5 out of 10
  • Mala Sichuan chilli sauce

the one nice unique item, salty-sweet with sugary bits

It's 9.55am and there are people already queuing up outside, it's like a wave of people going to a concert at 10.05pm and the queue is already crazy. Let's see if this is true or not, your friend, this one is to keep away all the bad reviews. Wow. From queuing up at 9.50am to getting our first order, it's about 30-35 minutes. Uncle Roger's favourite, $10.90. This is really not bad for its zestiness but it tastes so similar to the Seasons ice lemon tea bottle. You can see the ice makes up 50% of the drink. Haiyaa, Uncle Roger. $10.90, I think that's triple or quadruple the price. I'm going to give this a sip. Uncle Roger's egg fried rice with garlic shrimp, 34 ringgit. The fried rice taste is quite strong here but it's missing the wok cake. I will categorize this as any standard, any restaurant fried rice. The prawn, you get zero garlic from this. The prawn's texture feels like it's overly mushy, like overcooked a bit. Just when I bite in, the texture inside is like taste. Rather than you can see the individual strands from the prawn. Lean tasting prawn that feels slightly overcooked. This makes up for a lot of the 34 ringgit besides paying for the brand. So you'd expect it to taste really good lah. $6.1.00. Special fly lice. $6 ringgit add-on for the eggs. Is there a golden goose egg? I don't know. Let's try. It does glow, it does glow. I think this side must have been overcooked. Yeah, like that custardy sort of texture. One side overcooked, one side ok-ish but I can barely pour it on my fried rice. Hard to tell first, lemongrass after taste. Isn't it struggling to be either a normal fried rice or pomegranate fried rice? I think I prefer the garlic shrimp fried rice taste more than this one. If that one tastes like Chinese fried rice, this one tastes like mamma fried rice. From Malaysians 0.5 out of 10 level of spiciness. Very normal lah, really very normal. And also there's no wok thing. Okay the one thing that's kind of nice here and unique is this chilli sauce thing. Mala Sichuan chilli type of flavour one. Now Miwon ah, it's quite salty and sweet one. You can sort of feel the sugary bits from this sauce one. This one comes with the special fly lice. The taste? Sweet sambal belacan. Not a bad dish but very meat. 5.5. I see the argument that Vivian, the rent is very expensive. I think that's a very fun argument because as a consumer kan. If you pay 2 to 3 times the price, you shouldn't care about how much rent they pay. You should expect that this should be 2 to 3 times better the taste. Or if not, add something super unique. It doesn't have to be expensive. You don't have to add caviar or gold flakes on it. You just need to know a special ingredient that maybe nobody has used before. And it tastes super nice. This one doesn't have that very standard. Or 3 fried rice and 2 drinks, RM118.10. Haiyan! Mahana mempui!
