The verdict
BolehJason finds Village Park's nasi lemak far better than his first visit five years ago, with firm coconut rice, layered sambal and crispy fried chicken. He still calls it a commercialised, mainstream taste — the safe first recommendation for tourists rather than a local hidden gem.
Highlights
- Price: RM43 total for the two nasi lemak plates, excluding half-boiled eggs and toast
- Taste: Firm bouncy coconut rice, ginger-sweet layered sambal, crispy juicy fried chicken; kambing tender but sauce-heavy
- Ambiance: Completely packed inside, they only just managed to find a small spot to sit
- Other: He ranks it mainstream pop versus indie local spots like Bang Sudu and Borong Hantu

This is me trying Village Park for the first time after five years. I think I just ate a completely different nasi lemak. I remember not liking the nasi lemak ayam goreng that time, that's why it took me half a decade to come back for the second time. Now it has 9,719 Google Air reviews. It was completely packed inside, luckily we had a small spot to see. We ate their signature nasi lemak ayam goreng and nasi lemak kambing. Good, their steamed coconut rice got flavour and it's firm and bouncy, not the mushy-mushy kind. The sambal has layers to the taste, halia ginger taste. It has a sweet sugary note to it and I think some of you won't like it. Most of the taste is taken up by this popiah prawn paste type of flavour. For the ayam goreng, you get the deep-fried taste on the meat itself, not just the skin. Crispy, juicy, tender. It's good. Spice crumbs are salty and tasty but nothing special. The kambing was tender and marination chewed. Yeah, I thought the portion was okay but as I discovered underneath all that sauce, they gave me a big lump of ginger there and then a few pieces was just tendons. The sauce very thick, it's a bit spicy. The curry that was spice. Nasi lemak kambing 7.8, nasi lemak ayam goreng 8. To me Village Park has a commercialised taste which means it's the first nasi lemak someone would recommend their tourist friend. Widely accepted for the majority of taste buds even outside of Malaysia. Then Bang Sudu and Borong Hantu if you know localised taste buds. Village Park, Mainstream Pop, Bang Sudu, Borong Hantu, Indie. Total spend 43 ringgit but that won't include half-bought eggs and toast lah.
