A 6.8 overall — exceptionally fresh ikan bakar with a standout stingray sambal petai at 8.5, but let down by tiny rubbery lala and an overpriced crab Maggi tomyam. Newly opened spot in a residential area that was nearly empty at 6pm, with pick-and-weigh seafood pricing.

Highlights

  • Price: Jenahak RM60, lala RM15, crab Maggi tomyam RM70, all weighed per gram
  • Taste: Fresh juicy grilled fish with balanced sambal and banana-leaf aroma; lala tiny and rubbery

Can't get any fresher than this. They have 18 types of fishes. Anywhere from stingray to the red snapper, shellfish like crustaceans and mollusks punada. This place is called Wan Ikan Bakar Bandar Menjalara. It looks emptier than my Form 5 AdMats answer box. It was 6pm so why are there hardly any customers? Besides being newly opened it's also located in a residential area and you have to go through a security checkpoint. To order your seafood just pick what you like and they will weigh it for you. The scale will show the weight and the price. The last thing you want is being shocked by the price so they have it all listed up per X-gram. Wash it, cut it, gut it. Our first dish is this bakar kosong ikan jenaha. 700g, 60g. The most annoying thing about this place is the lalat. Very smooth. I think you'll like this girlfriend. If I put in the air asam. Yeah I agree with you when you say it's smooth. One thing I really hope their cooking is consistent that if you try this you will also get it as fresh. Bakar sambal, it's balanced. Balanced on the sweet, salty and spicy. I wouldn't mind if the spice was more. A lot of it has to do with the freshness but also the fact the way that they bakar you get the bakar grilled flavor but the meat remains fresh and juicy. Not dried up. This fish is at eight. My must order ikan pari with sambal petai. Wow. Petai is fresh, it's mentah-mentah. The sambal sweeter slightly but only slightly not potong kaki level. Ikan pari doesn't have the ammonia taste. You know the one that goes all the way to your nose. My favorite part of an ikan pari is with the skin and if it's smooth and a bit slimy. I love that. Yep almost melts in your mouth. One thing I see a lot of other ikan bakar places missing. The flavor of the daun pisang. This one sticks. So good. 8.5. Deep-fried sotong. This is like your school in the middle of Kerepot Leko chili. Juicy, not the rubbery type. The tepung tastes like chicken KFC. It's not gonna abuse. Oh wow on it lah. 7.6. Lala with steamed haleah 400 gram, 15 ringgit. Rubbery. I know it's not easy but it's such a big deal breaker if kerang or lala the meat is very small. Because you feel like that you have to put a small effort into taking out the meat from the shell. Then putting it in your mouth the reward does not match the effort, you know. Steamed haleah Not the kind that I like. Somehow sweet tasting and the haleah will give it a bitter aftertaste. Almost every single of the meat is tiny. When you look at the price and the portion right 15 ringgit like quite cheap but i think a lot of the weight is the shell. 5.5 grand finale 70 ringgit about 500 grams Maggi Tomiyam Ketam. Gigantic piece of crab. They crack it for you a bit already. Fresh and juicy. You want Uncle Van? Usually the smell is too strong, pungent but this still nice. Fish roll type of flavour. I missed it out but they did provide the crab or nutcracker. Biasa loh. It doesn't add anything to the ketam. I'd rather just eat the ketam with my hands. Overcooked, not al dente. Soup quite sour. Sweet food that I taste the most. Just a little sting. I'll do without noodles. Crab is good and juicy. Price is very expensive but crab right there has much better choices like the famous chilli crab. I saw from this menu they can cook your seafood in 18 different ways. Giving this 6.8.
