Jason gives this Muslim-friendly seafood kopitiam a 6.8, praising the layered wet butter lobster but finding the crab sauces mask the premium meat. The deep fried Sabah trout with nyonya sauce is a solid 7.5. Good seafood quality, but the flavour choices sometimes cheapen the taste.

Highlights

  • Price: Trout RM144, lobster RM172.84, Alaskan king crab RM490
  • Taste: Fresh, stringy crab meat and layered buttermilk, but sauces can mask the seafood
  • Ambiance: Kopitiam meets 1970s vintage hall, Muslim friendly, giant live crabs on display
  • Other: Crab cooked three ways with steamed egg using the kepala

It's my first time in Galaxy Yampang Mall, it seems like people come here for manicure, manicure, massage but down in LG, there's a restaurant that might be a go-to for seafood. Giant crab, giant alive crab, piano, bagi for customers, all in this kopitiam meets 1970s vintage hall Muslim friendly restaurant, chuba try test, zamanku. Deep fried Sabah trout with nyonya sauce, RM144. Mahan amam, pui! Sour sweet, fibrous hairy texture, like eating kerupuk the taste with the sauce, a layer of tang. Sour is strong, but I think it's a little more sweet. The meat is subtly sweet, flaky and the kind that doesn't break down easily. This side of the fish is quite meaty, for me the best bite is the contrast from the crispiness of the fish skin with the texturized nyonya sauce, 7.5. Wet butter lobster, RM172.84, gonna grab a morsel from this lobster, oh, poking in feels like chicken. You taste a bit more butter than condensed milk, it seems like got resistance on, it's a little bouncy but it's a bit dry also. The butter, nice, it's thick, rich, mild sweetness but that butter flavour does overpower the lobster meat. For me very important that a buttermilk is not one-dimensional, this has layers on it, the aromaticness of the curry leaf, tint of spice from the potong red chilli, that saai sweet sea tasting lobster meat makes this whole taste into a package. Wait, is there meat here? Oh, what is this? Meshy feeling, it tastes like raw though, no, no, no, no, it's for decoration. Portion is relatively small but it makes up for the taste, 7.9. This is your Alaskan king crab, this whole thing is 1,400 grams, 490 ringgit. They use the kepala for the steamed egg with soy sauce version. This is a lethal weapon you know, they also mixed it with the steamed egg. It's definitely fresh, imagine the steamed egg as your pudding and the crab meat is your nata di coco. Bouncy chunks of the crab meat that's coming from here. Down here is just basic steamed egg, much more steamed egg than crab meat. This is the chilli version. Sweetness overdose, this is very sweet oniony and got some smokiness on. Alaskan crab meat gang, this is like digging out 10 ringgit. It is so stringy that regular crab meat feels pasty. I think the sweet sauce is a distraction to the meat, it doesn't work well together but if you taste the crab by itself, it's a very seafood briny mouthfeel. Third version salted chilli, it's so spiky. Okay we've got the same texture, stringy. Double decker prawn, this version feels very much like snack. Imagine a more salty Kentucky flour mixed in with an even saltier poppia sprinkle. Very strong on the dried shrimp, I think the crab meat is good. I definitely get to feel a higher tier of crab meat quality. It's just their choice of flavours especially for their salted chilli and chilli. It masks the flavour into a cheaper taste, 6.8.
